District III Spring Meeting

Earth Day, April 22, 2017 was the date for the Michigan Garden Clubs, 2017 District III Spring Meeting titled: Celebrate Earth

The meeting was planned and executed by Meeks Mill Garden Club in Constantine, MI.  Ginny Tavenier, Kathy Messner and Becky Dodd were the organizers for the event.  Evelyn Flynn, District III Director was the emcee.

Carol Brodbeck, 1st VP of MGC, Inc., Jean Goets, Bue Star Memorial chair, Sue Kropschot, MGC Scholarships Chair, and Nancy Jack Ryan and Sue Leahy, Black Swallowtail Butterfly project chair all gave reports.

 

Carol Beckius, Awards chair presented the 2017 District III awards to member clubs.

The remainder of the day was filled with presentations from: Michael Ochsner, Production Lead at the Monsanto facility in Constantine presented, “Monsanto & GMOs-Discover Monsanto in Constantine,” Ilse Gebhard, Conservation Specialist with Monarchwatch.org presented, “Establishing Native Plant Gardens to Attract Butterflies and Michael Hoag, owner of Lillie House, presented, “Growing a Garden of Hope, Introduction to Permaculture.”

Meek’s Mill Garden Club, Inc. would like to thank Meijer, Inc., Arnett’s Garden Center, The Potting Shed, Constantine Public Schools, and Charwell’s Food Service for their contributions to make this day a success.
